Data watching and earnings report were the name of the game this month. Investors watch out for key data out from the US while Singapore had been flooded with full-year earnings reports from companies with financial year ending 31 December 2023.

For my top 30 holdings this month, there had been some major movements as investors reacted to results reporting from companies. Multi-Chem made it to the list for the first time, after announcing a set of result that beat market expectations and also increased their dividend payout. LHT was also one of the main contributor, after surprising the market with a special dividend payout. Frencken was another performer, as analysts upgraded their target prices on the stock after their result announcement. Wing Tai also did well, after a newspaper report on the company as a potential privatisation candidate. Sembcorp Industries though, was one of the bigger detractors while Delfi dropped out of the list as investors sold down the stock after their result announcement, which indicated margin compression.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Asia Enterprises, BBR, Bonvests, Brook Crompton, Bukit Sembawang Estates, City Developments, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, First Sponsor, Global Investments, Hiap Hoe, HL Global, Ho Bee Land, Hor Kew, Hong Leong Asia, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, IFS Capital, Indofood Agri, Innotek, IPC Corp, Karin, Koh Brothers, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Nam Lee, Ossia, OUE, Pacific Century, Pan Hong, SHS, Silverlake Axis, Singapore Land Group, Stamford Tyres, Straits Trading, Taka Jewellery, Tan Chong International, TIH, Tuan Sing, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. I have also closed my position in Hiap Seng.

Next month will be another quiet one with not much corporate activities as investors digest those full-year results from companies with financial year ending 31 December 2023. I will continue to go through some of those result announcements that I have missed out in February. With companies citing many issues like global economic uncertainties, ongoing geopolitical issues, raising costs etc in their outlook statements, I will still adopt a more defensive positioning for my portfolio going forward.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 29 February 2024)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. Volatility also increased a bit this month, highlighting investors' lower confidence on the local market. New conflicts like rebel movement in Yemen on Red Sea shipping has escalated tensions in Middle East. Meanwhile, China continued to disappoint as full-year exports fell for the first time in 7 years. Investors also expected lesser rate cuts from US Fed this year as Treasury yields rose.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Amara Holdings remained in the list as I did not accept the takeover offer after it closes. Samudera Shipping returned to the list after outperforming due to expectation of rate hikes, contributed by conflicts in Middle East. Sembcorp Industries and PM Data also contributed to returns. However, The Hour Glass and Jardine C&C were the biggest detractors in the list. The two REITs in the list also underperformed, as investors expected later and lesser rate cuts this year.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Alliance HC, AP Oil, AV Jennings, Baker Tech, Bonvests, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Bund Center, Chemical Industries, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, Hiap Hoe, Hock Lian Seng, Hotel Properties, Hotel Royal, Huationg Global, IFS Capital, IPC Corp, Koda, Koh Brothers, KSH, Low Keng Huat, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Ossia, Secura, Shopper360, Sinarmas Land, Singapura Finance, Sing Investment & Finance, Sing Holdings, Singapore Land Group, Straits Trading, Tai Sin, Tuan Sing, Tye Soon, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

Next month, most companies with financial year ending 31 December 2023 will be announcing their full-year results. As usual, I will go through some of those result announcements. I will continue to execute my plan to bring in more undervalued stocks to lower my overall portfolio valuation. Efforts will be made to identify more of these stocks.

With Chinese New Year coming soon, I take this opportunity to wish all my readers out there Gong Xi Fa Cai and the best of health for the Year of the Dragon!

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 January 2024)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. Markets rallied in December as US Fed indicated that inflation had eased, paving the way for a sharper pace of rate cuts next year. As expected, rate sensitive stocks like REITs and property developers did well.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - abrdn Indonesia Equity Fund.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Frencken returned to the list as investors bet on recovery in the semiconductor industry. The Hour Glass and the two REITs (i.e. CapitaLand Ascendas REIT and CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust) also did well. Most of the other stocks in the list also recovered a bit, in line with the general market.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Asia Enterprises, Baker Tech, Bonvests, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Bund Center, Captii, Chemical Industries, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, First Sponsor, Hiap Hoe, HL Global, Ho Bee Land, Hongkong Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hor Kew, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, IFS Capital, Jardine Matheson, Koh Brothers, KSH, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Nam Lee, Overseas Education, OUE Heathcare, PEC, SHS, Singapore Land Group, Straits Trading, Tuan Sing, Wing Tai, XMH, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

STI ended the year on a positive note but underperformed significantly as compared to US market in 2023. For those who have invested in SGX, it had been a tough and volatile year. However, with interest rate expecting to dip next year, there is an optimistic mood around the market lately as shown in the recent year end market rally. Hopefully, this will continue for our local market next year. I will remain invested and hopefully ride on any upside while protecting my downside via careful stock selection and portfolio management.

Wishing all my readers out there many more returns in 2024. Markets rallied during the early part of the month due to expectation of no further rate hike from Fed. However, recession fears took over later in the month and markets corrected. Volatility also decreased greatly this month as compared to previous one.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - Khong Guan.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Amara was one of the main movers after the company received a voluntary unconditional cash offer from a consortium. iFAST also continued its good run from previous month after receiving brokerage upgrades. The REITs in the list also did well, as investors now expect no more rate hike in US for this year and faster pace of rate cuts in 2024. Sembcorp Industries also outperformed, after making more investments into wind assets in China and India. Laggards include The Hour Glass and Delfi. Investors were disappointed after Delfi's 3Q23 business update as growth might moderate going forward. OUE is a new entry into the list for the month.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Asia Enterprises, Boustead, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Bund Center, Captii, Chemical Industries, City Developments, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, Goodland, HL Global, Hongkong Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, IFS Capital, Indofood Agri, IPC, Isetan, Jardine Matheson, Karin, Kingsmen, KSH, Lion AsiaPac, Low Keng Huat, Lum Chang, Metro, Nam Lee, Pan Hong, Shopper360, SHS, Sing Investment & Finance, Sing Holdings, Singapore Land Group, Singapore Shipping, Singapura Finance, Straits Trading, TIH, UOA, UOL, Wing Tai, Yanlord, Yeo Hiap Seng and YHI. Concerns this month include Israel-Hamas conflict which could translate into war in Middle East, rising US long duration bond yield, rising oil prices etc. Volatility had also increased significantly in the markets this month, as compared to previous few months. REITs had also been sold off due to concerns of higher interest rate for longer, though they did recovered some lost ground towards the end of the month.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - Wing Tai, Spindex, Chuan Hup and Lion AsiaPac.

For my top 30 holdings this month, most stocks had lost ground due to general market weakness. Samudera Shipping dropped out of the list after announcing a profit warning for their 3Q23 result. But there were a few outperformers. iFAST did well after announcing their 3Q23 result as their ePension project in Hong Kong had started to contribute revenue. Bonvests and LHT also did well.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, AP Oil. Asia Enterprises, Baker Tech, Bund Center, Captii, Chemical Industries, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, F&N, Frasers Property, Goodland, GuocoLand, Heeton, Ho Bee Land, Hongkong Land, Hock Lian Seng, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, Huationg Global, Isetan, Jardine Matheson, Koh Brothers, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, MYP, New Toyo, Pacific Century, PEC, SBS Transit, SHS, Sinarmas Land, Singapura Finance, SingTel, Stamford Land, Stamford Tyres, Straits Trading, Trendlines and Tye Soon. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following preferential offer/rights issue - AV Jennings.

Next month will be another quiet month although some companies will be announcing their 3Q23 results and updates. With only two months left before the end of the year, it will be a good time to slow down and do some reflections before the year draws to a close. Markets are expected to be more quiet as we head towards the holiday season so I don't expect much big movements. Therefore, it is quite likely that this is going to end up with another negative year for equities in general as well.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 October 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. You can refer to my previous one at the link below:

https://ghchua.blogspot.com/2022/11/my-unit-trust-asset-allocation.html

For asset classes, I have done nothing much other than consistently adding onto the list of unit trusts that I had been holding for CPF Investments. I have been very defensive for the past one year or so, and therefore increased my allocation to short duration bond fund significantly. Equity allocation was down correspondingly, due mainly to its relative under performance in general and also adding onto other asset classes.

For geographic exposure, Global, Japan and US funds were the out performers in the portfolio. Since Global funds have greater exposure to US and Japan, it is understandable that they have performed well along with these markets. Laggards continued to be funds with exposure to China. Though I don't specifically hold any China funds, Asia Pacific Excluding Japan, Emerging Markets and Asia excluding Japan regional funds do have decent exposure to that market, which dragged down their performance.

Going forward, my strategy is to add onto existing funds, while continue to maintain a more defensive positioning in terms of asset allocation.

Asset Class

Equity 81.4%

Balanced 13.01%

Short Duration Bond 4.56%

Fixed Income 1.04%

Geographic

Global 19.19%

Asia Pacific Excluding Japan 16.68%

Emerging Markets 13.21%

Japan 12.13%

US 8.01%

Singapore 7.44%

Asia excluding Japan 5.6%

Europe including UK 3.2%

Taiwan 3.1%

Indonesia 3.1%

Thailand 2.93%

India 2.32%

Malaysia 1.62%

Korea 1.46%

Welcome any comments (if any) on my unit trust asset allocation.
ghchuahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09475913934410840352noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8621977.post-81688632463999559142023-09-29T04:57:00.000-07:002023-09-29T04:57:15.089-07:00My Investment Portfolio (September 2023)
STI ended 3Q2023 at around 3217 points, down less than 1% as compared to last month closing. September was traditionally one of the weakest month in the market. Concerns this month in the markets include USD strength, raising Treasury yields after US Fed indicated further rate hikes this year, a possible US government shutdown and higher oil prices. Volatility in the markets increased as compared to last month.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - Shopper360.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Singapore Land Group was in the news after the company applied to URA for Marina Square to be rezoned to undertake partial redevelopment. Not much major news was observed for most stocks in the list, as they have mostly lost ground along with the general market.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Asia Enterprises, Ban Leong, Bund Center, Casa, Chemical Industries, City Developments, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, F&N, First Sponsor, GuocoLand, Hiap Hoe, Ho Bee Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, Huationg Global, Indofood Agri, Khong Guan, Koda, KSH, Lion AsiaPac, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Nam Lee, OUE, Overseas Education, Pacific Century, PEC, SBS Transit, SHS, Silverlake Axis, Sinarmas Land, Sing Investment & Finance, Singapore Land Group, Singapore Shipping, Singapura Finance, SingTel, Stamford Land, Stamford Tyres, TC Auto, Trendlines and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

Next month, companies with financial year ending 30 June 2023 will be holding their AGMs. As usual, I will be attending some of them to get updates. With markets getting more volatile, I will continue to be more defensive in positioning my portfolio going forward.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 29 September 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. US government credit rating downgrade spooked the markets during the early part of the month. Also, Singapore GDP numbers came out below expectations and continued concerns on state of China's economy and property sector worried the markets. This plus raising bond yield and rating downgrade of US banks added to further market weakness. However, Singapore inflation data came out better than expected, which allowed the market to recover back some of those losses towards to end of the month.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Delfi did well after announcing a decent set of 1H23 results which beats market expectations but gave up some of those gains towards the end of the month. Hotel Properties also did well after getting approval from URA for their proposed redevelopment of their assets located along Orchard Road and Cuscaden Road. Among the laggards, Samudera Shipping continued its weakness in share price after announcing their 1H23 results. Wing Tai also traded down after they announced a profit warning ahead of their FY23 results. The Hour Glass was sold down after news that Rolex had bought retailer Bucherer. Meanwhile, Tat Seng returned to the list after announcing a higher than expected interim dividend payout.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Alliance HC, Asia Enterprises, Bonvests, Brook Crompton, Cosmosteel, EnGro, F&N, Frasers Property, Goodland, GuocoLand, Heeton, Hiap Hoe, Ho Bee Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, Hotung, Huationg Global, IFS Capital, Indofood Agri, Jardine Matheson, Khong Guan, Koda, Lum Chang, Metro, Noel Gifts, OUE, Pacific Century, SBS Transit, Shangri-La Asia, Silverlake Axis, Sing Holdings, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, Straits Trading, Tai Sin, Tan Chong International, TIH, UOA, Venture, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme - Jardine Matheson.

Next month will be a quiet month with not much corporate activities. As usual, I will spend sometime to go through some of those full-year result announcements that I have missed for companies with financial year ending 30 June 2023. I will also continue to seek value in the market and re-invest prudently.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 August 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. However, the usual concerns on interest rate, US Fed actions and China economy had been driving market movements and volatility.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - SingPost, Valuetronics, AIMS APAC Reit and Stamford Land.

For my top 30 holdings this month, iFAST continued its good run after announcing its 1H23 results. PM Data was also among the gainers after the company announced proposed redevelopment of existing freehold investment property. Among the laggards, Hotel Properties was in the news after its MD was under investigation by CPIB. Sembcorp Industries also weakened after terminating its plans to sell SembWaste and its energy-from-waste plant. Not much changes was observed for the other stocks in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Bund Center, Chemical Industries, Chuan Hup, City Developments, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, Haw Par, HL Global, Ho Bee Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hongkong Land, IHH, Indofood Agri, Jardine Matheson, Karin, Khong Guan, Koh Brothers, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Noel Gifts, NSL, OUE, Overseas Education, Pan Hong, SBS Transit, Shopper360, Silverlake Axis, Sing Holdings, Sing Investment & Finance, Singapore Land Group, Straits Trading, Tan Chong International, TC Auto, Trek 2000, Trendlines, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. As usual, I will be going through some of those results. With markets starting to get a bit more volatile again after settling down in June, I will continue to remain defensive. I have been investing at a slightly slower pace lately, and will continue to do so. Markets had been on interest rate watching for most part of the month, with US Fed eventually paused interest rate hike and interest rate cut in China. After that, markets were weighing on further interest rate hike in US and whether recession could be avoided.

For my top 30 holdings this month, major movers include Hotel Properties, Sembcorp Industries and Amara. Hotel Properties was in the news after the company puts in a redevelopment proposal for its assets in Orchard Road. US government debt ceiling and recession fears were the two main issues bothering the markets. China's patchy recovery post Covid restrictions was another main concern. A lot of counters went ex-dividend in May, which also explains Singapore market weakness this month. There was also concern that Singapore might go into a technical recession as annual GDP growth slowed in the first quarter of this year.

For my top 30 holdings this month, main movers include Sembcorp Industries and Delfi. Delfi had updated the market on its 1Q23 performance. PM Data also did well after releasing their full year result while The Hour Glass and Bukit Sembawang Estates disappointed. Major laggards include Samudera Shipping and Global Testing, after the stocks went ex-dividend and ex-entitlement respectively. Not much changes was observed for the other stocks in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, Asia Vets, AV Jennings, Baker Tech, Bonvests, Bund Center, Chuan Hup, City Developments, ComfortDelgro, EnGro, F&N, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, Guocoland, Heeton, Ho Bee Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, IFS Capital, Intraco, IPC, Isetan, Karin, Koh Brothers, Mandarin Oriental, MindChamps, Nam Lee, OUE, Overseas Education, Sakae, SBS Transit, Secura, Shopper360, Silverlake Axis, Sinarmas Land, Singapore Land Group, Singapore Shipping, Straits Trading, Taka Jewellery, Tan Chong International, TIH, Trek 2000, Tye Soon, UOL, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following preferential offer/rights issue - Keppel Infrastructure Trust.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes - UOB Kay Hian, Global Investments, Tuan Sing, Yeo Hiap Seng and China International.

"Sell in May and Go Away" seems to be the name of the game this month. However, with some cash in hand after the GK Goh offer and dividends received this month, I have managed to re-invest some of those proceeds. Though there is still some cash drag, I will continue to seek value and try to re-invest slowly back into the market. With headwinds ahead and markets not expecting to perform well again this year, I will remain cautious and continue to hold more cash going forward.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 May 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)

1. iFAST

2. The usual concerns on interest rate, inflation, recession and bank failures continue to occupy the markets. In Singapore, we have the added concern on the latest property cooling measures to worry about towards the end of the month.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - UOI, Hotung, Singapura Finance, ST Engineering, GK Goh, Riverstone, Global Investments, iFAST and Isetan.

For my top 30 holdings this month, GK Goh was out of the list as I accepted its voluntary general offer after it turns unconditional. Main movers include Jardine C&C and Global Testing. EnGro and Tat Seng meanwhile returned to the list. Not much changes was observed for the other stocks in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Asia Enterprises, AsiaMedic, Baker Tech, Bonvests, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Chemical Industries, Chuan Hup, Far East Orchard, GP Industries, Ho Bee Land, Hong Leong Asia, Hotel Grand Central, Hotung, IHH, Isetan, Koh Brothers, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, MindChamps, MYP, OUE, Riverstone, Secura, Shopper360, Singapura Finance, Straits Trading, Taka Jewellery, Tat Seng, Trek 2000, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme - Jardine Matheson. I have converted the following company warrants to shares - MTQ Corporation.

I have also accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - GK Goh.

With the busy April AGM period over, I can finally sit down and look at my portfolio more closely again. With impending headwinds like recession in the horizon, I will continue to be defensive in my portfolio positioning. May is a dividend month as many companies with financial year ending 31 December 2022 will be paying out their dividends to shareholders. Hence, there will be some cash drag in my portfolio again. With a difficult market to navigate ahead, I have decided to retain some of those dividends and increase my cash holdings going forward.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 28 April 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. iFAST
2. Besides interest rate hike concern, investors now have the failure of banks and its contagion effect on the global financial system to worry about.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - ESR Logos REIT.

For my top 30 holdings this month, GK Goh was one of the main movers after it resumed trading and received a voluntary general offer from its controlling shareholder. Sembcorp Industries and Delfi also continued their good run from last month. The three finance companies and iFAST in the list also held up quite well, despite turmoil in the financial sector. Meanwhile, EnGro and Haw Par dropped out of the list, mainly due to relative share price under performance as compared to others in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - ABR, Amara, Broadway, Bund Center, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, F&N, Frasers Property, Global Investments, Goodland, GuocoLand, HL Global, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, IHH, Indofood Agri, Khong Guan, Koh Brothers, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, OUE, OUE Lippo Heathcare, Sinarmas Land, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, SingTel, Trendlines, Tye Soon, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offers this month - Boustead Projects and Global Dragon. My stake in Colex had also been acquired via Scheme of Arrangement.

I have participated in the following preferential offer/rights issue - SATS.

I had expected a quieter market this month after the full-year results reporting season in February but I was wrong. Markets became more volatile due to news of bank failures and bailouts, although it seems to taper off towards the end of the month. With that in mind, I have increased my pace of buying to take advantage of market volatility. With next month being a low dividend paying month, I will have to allocate my funds more slowly before the May dividend payouts. I will also try to attend some AGMs in April to get updates from some companies that I have invested in.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 March 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. iFAST
2. Again, interest rate had been a concern to the market, with investors now expecting a faster than expected pace of hike to tame inflationary pressures going forward. Interest rate is also expected to remain higher for longer.

For my top 30 holdings this month, it had been a busy month. There were quite a few companies reporting this month and it is still ongoing as some have yet to report their full-year financial results at the time of writing. Samudera Shipping, Hong Leong Finance, Sing Investment & Finance, Bonvests, Hotel Properties, Far East Orchard, LHT and Sembcorp Industries all declared higher dividend payouts. New entry Delfi also reported with a higher dividend payout and a set of result that beats market expectations. More muted results were reported by iFAST, Singapura Finance and EnGro. Global Testing meanwhile, did a lower capital reduction payout as compared to last FY. Haw Par and Singapore Land Group did deliver a decent set of results, but didn't increase their dividend payout. GK Goh meanwhile, received a takeover offer from the controlling shareholder.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Asia Enterprises, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, F&N, Frasers Property, GK Goh, GuocoLand, Heeton, HL Global, Hong Leong Asia, IPC, Isetan, Koda, Koh Brothers, Low Keng Huat, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, MYP, OUE, OUE Lippo Healthcare, PEC, Shangri-La Asia, Sinarmas Land, Sing Holdings, Singtel, TC Auto, Teho, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme - Sabana Reit.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offers this month - Sabana Reit (partial offer).

As markets starting to get volatile again, I have slowed down my purchases this month. Next month, I will continue to go through the remaining full-year results of companies with financial year ending 31 December 2022 that I have missed out in February. Investors are betting on soft landing and higher corporate profits, despite higher interest rate environment. However, some profit taking was seen towards the end of the month ahead of US FOMC meeting to decide the next interest rate hike.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Stamford Land was among the gainers after announcing completion of disposal of its hotel properties in Auckland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia. Other main movers include Samudera Shipping, Sembcorp Industries and UOL (which returned to the list). The REITs in the list also did well. iFAST though, was the main laggard after announcing a delay in their ePension project in Hong Kong.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Asia Enterprises, Captii, Chemical Industries, ComfortDelgro, Cosmosteel, Credit Bureau Asia, GK Goh, Global Investments, GuocoLand, Heeton, Hock Lian Seng, Indofood Agri, IPC, Isetan, Khong Guan, Koh Brothers, KSH, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Noel Gifts, NSL, OUE, Overseas Education, Sing Holdings, Singtel, Trek 2000, Tye Soon, UOL, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offer this month - Chip Eng Seng.

Having started the year with such a good run, the risk is now higher investing in markets. Therefore, I have turned cautious and slowed down my pace of purchase. Next month, most companies with financial year ending 31 December 2022 will be reporting their full year results. As there is a long list of companies reporting, I will only be going through some of those results. I will also continue to search for value and moderate my pace of investing.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 January 2023)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. iFAST
2. Markets initially cheered on China's easing of Covid-19 measures early in the month. But recessionary concerns and rate hike fears limited the upside.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Hotel Properties did well after announcing disposal of commercial units at Ming Arcade via collective sale. Some of the stocks in the Top 5 Holdings (US$ Denominated shares) list like Mandarin Oriental, Hongkong Land, Jardine Matheson and DFI Retail Group also did well due to Hong Kong and China reopening. Sembcorp Industries also made it to the list after benefiting from higher energy prices this year due to inflation and its strategy to reduce carbon footprint and improve gearing. Among the laggards, Samudera Shipping was again sold off due to weaker container shipping rates.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Amara, Bonvests, Bund Center, Chuan Hup, City Developments, ComfortDelgro, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, F&N, Frasers Property, GK Goh, Global Dragon, Heeton, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hotel Grand Central, IPC, Koh Brothers, Lum Chang, Metro, OUE, Sinarmas Land, Sing Investment & Finance, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, Stamford Land, Tuan Sing, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following preferential offer/rights issue - CSE Global.

My stake in SP Corp had also been acquired via Scheme of Arrangement.

It had been an eventful and volatile year. Having said that, I continue to stay focused on my portfolio and mostly invested in value plays. Also, I have resisted on adding new stocks into my portfolio and there were fewer new additions this year. Still, my portfolio suffered some major drawdown during some period of the year where there had been widespread selloffs. Again, having zero leverage on the portfolio helps, as I have not been forced to sell off any stock in my portfolio to meet margin calls. I will continue to maintain zero gearing for my portfolio going forward.

Next year is expected to be another tough year for investors, as interest rate is expected to be higher for longer. However, there will always be opportunities in the markets. I will continue to seek value, while looking out for growth stocks that offer decent valuation.

Wishing all my readers out there a profitable Year 2023. Happy New Year!

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 30 December 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. iFAST
2. Markets had turned positive this month mainly because of softer than expected US CPI numbers, which might allow Fed to slower their rate hikes. Resurgence of Covid-19 cases and demonstrations in China plus worries about a recession though, capped the market upside.

For my top 30 holdings this month, iFAST returned to the top of the list after a decent performance this month. Other main movers include Samudera Shipping and Global Testing. The two REITs in the list also did well. Haw Par, however dropped out of the list due to weaker relative performance as compared to other stocks in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, AP Oil, Bonvests, Credit Bureau Asia, Frasers Property, Global Investments, Heeton, Hongkong Land, Hotel Grand Central, Hotung, IPC, Jardine Matheson, Khong Guan, Kingsmen, Koh Brothers, LHT, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, NSL, Ossia, Sakae, SBS Transit, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, Stamford Land, TC Auto, TIH, Tuan Sing, Versalink, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. I have also closed my position in Datapulse warrants.

I have participated in the following preferential offer/rights issues - Datapulse and Hotel Royal.

With markets going up this month, I have slowed down my purchases. As there is only one month left to go for the year, not much activities will be expected. Also, holiday season will be coming soon and many are closing their books early. This coupled with the ongoing soccer World Cup meant that markets are likely to be more quiet. Accordingly, I will also be slowing down my activities in the market in December, but will keep a lookout for opportunities in order to attempt to end this challenging year on a positive note.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 30 November 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. iFAST
2. You can refer to my previous one at the link below:

http://ghchua.blogspot.com/2021/10/my-unit-trust-asset-allocation.html

For asset classes, I have done nothing much other than consistently adding onto the list of unit trusts that I had been holding for CPF Investments. However, I have increased my allocation in the short duration bond fund slightly, to take advantage of the increasing interest rate on the short end of the bond duration.

For geographic exposure, there had been a major drag in Asia Pacific Excluding Japan, Emerging Markets and Asia excluding Japan funds, as China and Russia are the major draw downs. Tech sell-offs had also affected tech heavy single country equity funds with exposure to Korea and Taiwan. This had been compensated by better performances in India and SEA markets like Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and to a lesser extent Malaysia. US and Europe including UK also suffered, but to a lesser extent as compared to the major drags.

Going forward, my strategy is to continue to add onto existing funds, while attempting to maintain a more defensive positioning in terms of asset allocation.

Asset Class

Equity 84.57%

Balanced 12.68%

Short Duration Bond 1.61%

Fixed Income 1.14%

Geographic

Asia Pacific Excluding Japan 17.64%

Global 16.25%

Emerging Markets 14.46%

Japan 11.24%

US 8.04%

Singapore 7.78%

Asia excluding Japan 5.74%

Thailand 3.64%

Indonesia 3.26%

Europe including UK 3.26%

Taiwan 3.07%

India 2.29%

Malaysia 1.81%

Korea 1.54%

Welcome any comments (if any) on my unit trust asset allocation.
ghchuahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09475913934410840352noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8621977.post-15846847020459685032022-10-31T04:57:00.002-07:002022-11-13T03:56:22.453-08:00My Investment Portfolio (October 2022)
STI ended October 2022 at around 3093 points, down a bit as compared to last month. It had been a volatile month for STI, with the index dropping below 3000 points during the month. However, it bounced back towards the end of the month. As usual, inflation and rate hike concerns continued to weigh on the markets. Also, with expectation of global economic downturn coming, investors had started to sold down stocks based on earnings projection. The China situation added into market concerns as well, as slowing growth plus zero Covid policy had dampened investor interest.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - SGX, Pacific Century, Micro-Mechanics, Santak, Lum Chang, Lion AsiaPac and Sakae.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Samudera Shipping did well as they released a set of positive profit guidance. DBS returned to the list as the banks are expected to report better results due to higher interest rate environment. Hotel Royal dropped out of the list as investors sold down the stock after it announced a rights issue.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, AP Oil, Asia Enterprises, Bund Center, Chuan Hup, ComfortDelgro, Delfi, F&N, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, Global Investments, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hongkong Land, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, IHH, Indofood Agri, Innotek, Isetan, Kingsmen, Koh Brothers, Low Keng Huat, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Nam Lee, Ossia, OUE, Overseas Education, Sakae, SBS Transit, Singapore Land Group, SingTel, Trendlines, Tuan Sing, XMH, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. Markets had been on Fed watch during the course of the month, with expectations on the eventual size of rate hike driving market movements. Fed eventually hiked rates by 75 basis points but indicated a more hawkish range as previously expected by markets. Locally, inflation numbers was higher than expected and coupled with the latest property cooling measures announced near the end of the month, added to market weakness and volatility. Interest rate sensitive stocks like REITs and property stocks were badly beaten down this month. It was certainly red ink all over the place, with few places to shelter.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - ABR Holdings.

For my top 30 holdings this month, most stocks were in the red. Samudera Shipping was a big loser in the list, as investors were concerned on shipping rates adjusting down going forward. The two REITs in the list, namely CapitaLand Ascendas REIT and CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust were also badly sold down. Property related stocks didn't do that well either, with the likes of Hong Fok, Metro Holdings, Wing Tai, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Singapore Land Group etc all losing ground. GK Goh though, outperformed the rest in the list due to their share buyback activities.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Amara, Brook Crompton, Bund Center, ComfortDelgro, Credit Bureau Asia, F&N, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, GK Goh, Global Investments, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hongkong Land, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Indofood Agri, Isetan, Khong Guan, Koh Brothers, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, Noel Gifts, Riverstone, SBS Transit, Sinarmas Land, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, Tan Chong International, TC Auto, TIH, Trendlines, Tuan Sing, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme - Jardine Matheson.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offers this month - AIMS Property, Allied Tech and GYP Properties. My stake in Excelpoint had also been acquired via Scheme of Arrangement.

Next month, companies with financial year ending 30 June 2022 will be holding their AGMs. As usual, I will attend some of these AGMs to get updates from companies and also catch up with fellow investors. With markets having fallen sharply this month, it is certainly a good time to do some bargain hunting. Having said that, care should be taken not to commit too much in one go, as volatility will still persist in markets. Time averaging should be the strategy to spread out one's purchases.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 30 September 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. Rising geo-political tensions between Taiwan/US and China was the main concern during the early part of the month. Interest rate hike expectations by US Fed and inflation were also the usual concerns by the markets in the later part of the month. Volatility had increased again, as investors toggled frequently from risk-on to risk-off modes.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month - Mun Siong and XMH.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Jardine C&C continued its good run to move up a few more places. Wing Tai was in the news after the company reported a set of full year results that is above consensus expectations. Samudera Shipping, though was a laggard in the list. Not much changes was observed in the other stocks mainly due to lack of news flow.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Asia Enterprises, Baker Tech, Bonvests, Bund Center, ComfortDelgro, Credit Bureau Asia, EnGro, Far East Orchard, Global Investments, Goodland, Hong Leong Asia, Hor Kew, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, Indofood Agri, Isetan, Karin, Khong Guan, Kingsmen, Lum Chang, Nam Lee, Ossia, Overseas Education, Pan Hong, Riverstone, Sinarmas Land, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, Stamford Land, TC Auto, Tiong Seng, Trek 2000, Trendlines, Tuan Sing, Tye Soon, Wing Tai and Yeo Hiap Seng. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes - ESR-Logos Reit, Sabana Reit, Singapore Shipping, Stamford Land and Starhill Global Reit.

Next month will be another quiet month as companies with financial year ending 30 June 2022 and 31 December 2022 had completed reporting their full year and half year results respectively. As market volatility had increased again in August, I will continue to be cautious going forward. Market movements will continue be dominated by interest rate expectations and also geo-political issues. With so much uncertainty out there, it is certainly not the time to take big risk in the markets.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 August 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. US Fed hiked rates by another 75 basis points, but investors saw hints on moderation of rate hikes moving forward.

I have attended the following physical AGMs/EGMs/briefing this month- Azeus, Mapletree Industrial Trust, Mapletree Logistics Trust, SingPost, Singapore Kitchen Equipment and GP Industries.

For my top 30 holdings this month, Samudera Shipping was a major mover as the company reported a decent set of half year result. iFAST also reported, but disappointed the market. Nevertheless, the stock recovered as they started to buyback their shares. Jardine C&C half year result was also decent, aided by Astra. Not much major movements was observed in the other stocks in the list.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, AIMS Property, Amara, Bonvests, Brook Crompton, Bund Center, Captii, Chemical Industries, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, Delfi, EnGro, F&N, Far East Orchard, Frasers Property, GK Goh, Goodland, HL Global, Hong Leong Asia, Hotel Royal, Indofood Agri, Isetan, Khong Guan, Mandarin Oriental, OUE Lippo Heathcare, Overseas Education, Pan Hong, Pollux, Shopper360, Sinarmas Land, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, TC Auto, Tiong Seng, Trek 2000, Trendlines, Wing Tai, Yanlord and Yeo Hiap Seng. It was great to meet up with fellow investors physically again, and we certainly have a lot to catch up. Going forward, I will continue to attend these physical events as far as possible. We have already completed first half of the year. STI closed 1H2022 slightly below the start of the year at 3102 points. Market sell-off resulted in US markets entering the bear market territory due to recession fears from aggressive Fed rate hikes. Fed eventually raised rates this month as expected by 75 basis points.

For my top 30 holdings this month, iFAST was one of the major drag as investors sold off tech and growth stocks. Samudera Shipping was also another laggard, as investors expected freight rates to soften going forward. A-REIT did well though, as investors bought back interest rate sensitive stocks after US Fed announced rate hikes.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - ABR, AF Global, AIMS Property, Amara, Asia Enterprises, Brook Crompton, Bund Center, Captii, Chuan Hup, Credit Bureau Asia, Delfi, DFI Retail Group, EnGro, F&N, First Sponsor, Frasers Property, GK Goh, Hafary, HL Global, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hongkong Land, Hotel Grand Central, Hotel Royal, Hotung, Indofood Agri, Intraco, IPC, Jardine Matheson, Kingsmen, Koh Brothers, Lion AsiaPac, Low Keng Huat, Lum Chang, Mandarin Oriental, Metro, New Toyo, Ossia, OUE Lippo Heathcare, Pan Hong, Sakae, SBS Transit, Shopper360, Sing Investment & Finance, Singapore Land Group, Singapore Shipping, Stamford Land, Stamford Tyres, Tai Sin, TC Auto, Trendlines, Wing Tai, Yanlord and YHI. No sale trade was done.

I have increased my pace of purchases this month as markets continued to move down due to fears of more higher interest rate hikes. Having said that, the pace was quite balanced and more towards value stocks. As markets continued to remain volatile, I will remain focused on value plays and defensive stocks.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 30 June 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. The usual concerns are in the markets, plus the added concern on a possibility of a global recession or stagflation.

For my top 30 holdings this month, The Hour Glass maintained its top spot after reporting a decent set of full year results plus increased dividend payout. Bonvests also had a decent run, aided by further purchases from its controlling shareholder. Jardine C&C continued its good run from last month. Laggards include Global Testing, which went ex-dividend. Frencken meanwhile dropped out of the list after posting a disappointing set of result due to reduced margin.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - Amara, Delfi, EnGro, F&N, First Sponsor, Frasers Property, GK Goh, Hafary, Heeton, Hong Leong Asia, Hong Leong Finance, Hongkong Land, Hotel Grand Central, Indofood Agri, Isetan, Jardine Matheson, Kingsmen, Lian Beng, Lion AsiaPac, OUE, Singapore Land Group, Singapura Finance, TC Auto, Wing Tai and Yanlord. No sale trade was done.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes - Far East Orchard, Global Investments, Tuan Sing, UOA, UOB Kay Hian and Yeo Hiap Seng.

I have accepted Best World's equal access offer. My stake in SPH had also been acquired via Scheme of Arrangement.

As there is quite a decent amount of cash drag due to my slower purchases from the market this month, I will be exploring more opportunities to deploy those funds in the upcoming months ahead. Focus will still be very much be on value stocks, although some growth stocks are starting to look more attractive now due to the recent market correction. I will continue to be cautious when managing my portfolio, as markets are expected to continue to be quite choppy going forward in the short term.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 31 May 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1. The usual worries like raising inflation, interest rate hike, war in Ukraine etc continues to drag the markets down. STI closed below 3400 points at around 3356 points for the month.

For my top 30 holdings this month, iFAST lost its top spot in my portfolio as their 1Q2022 results missed analysts' expectations. GK Goh was another major drag as the stock went ex-dividend. Frencken was another big drag, with the stock being sold off. Samudera Shipping and Jardine C&C were the major winners, with the latter benefiting from Astra's good performance.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AF Global, Amara, AP Oil, Bonvests, Bund Center, Chemical Industries, Frasers Property, Goodland, Heeton, HL Global, Hong Leong Asia, Hotel Royal, Indofood Agri, Khong Guan, Koh Brothers, KSH, Metro, OUE Lippo Heathcare, Trendlines and Yeo Hiap Seng. I have also reduced my stake in ESR-REIT.

I have participated in the following scrip dividend scheme - Jardine Matheson. My units in ARA Logos had also been acquired via Scheme of Arrangement.

With upcoming dividend payouts from companies holding their AGMs this month, I will slowly plan to redeploy them back into the markets prudently going forward. As markets are still quite volatile, I might be deploying them much slower than usual. Therefore, some cash drag will be expected, as I seek to navigate these uncertain times.

My S'pore Stock Portfolio - Top Holdings, cash investment only (correct as at 29 April 2022)
Top 30 Holdings (Sing$ Denominated shares)
1.
