My Investment Portfolio (March 2017)

STI ended the first quarter on a high, closing at 3175 points. It had been a good month especially for manufacturing stocks as they continued to benefit from strong export numbers.

For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - ARA, K1 Ventures, Pacific Century Regional Developments and Mermaid Maritime.

For my top 30 holdings, stocks that did well include Hong Fok, Bukit Sembawang Estates, Keppel T&T and Tat Seng. Best World and PNE Industries also returned to the list after a good run while LHT is a new entry to the list after they announced an increase in dividend payout with their full year result. Shangri-La Asia also did well as their full year result beats market expectation. Laggard include ComfortDelgro as investors continued to be concerned with their taxi business due to increased competition from new players.

I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AV Jennings, Delfi, FSL Trust, GK Goh, Hotel Grand Central, iFAST, K1 Ventures, Keppel T&T, Riverstone, Samudera, Straits Trading, The Hour Glass, UIC, Union Steel, VARD and Vicplas. I have also closed my position in UPP W200212 to lock in its time value.

I have accepted the following voluntary delisting/cash offers this month - Auric Pacific and Super Group. My stake in Innovalues was also being acquired via scheme of arrangement.

I have also participated the following rights issues - HMI and Ascott REIT.

Next month will be the usual AGM season as companies with financial year ending 31 December 2016 will be conducting their AGMs. As usual, I will be attending some of these meetings to get some updates from those companies that I have invested in and their outlook and prospects ahead.

Hi,
I see you have Jardine Matheson in your holdings. Did you take up permanent election for JMH scrip dividends or do you elect every time they announce dividends?

Hi twinklekm,

Unfortunately, if you are holding JMH shares through CDP, there is no permanent scrip election option. You can only elect for scrip every time they declare a dividend.

Hope that the above clarifies.

Oh, I see. Thanks.
Too bad they don't include a postage paid envelope. It is too troublesome!

HI Shifu,

Is there any specific reason that the 3 big banks and Telcos are not in your top holding list?

Hi Sanye,

Sorry for the late reply as I was busy with AGMs lately.

3 big banks - Their valuation is ok, but not very cheap. Though higher interest rate gong forward might benefit them due to higher net interest margin, I prefer finance companies over banks as they are trading at lower valuation, with all 3 of them trading below book value.

Telcos - Competition is intensive with the entry of 4th telco and dividend might be at risk going forward. Among the 3, I have a bigger position in SingTel due to their regional exposure and then M1 as there is a chance that there might be a corporate action as majority shareholders are looking to sell their stake. I have a very small stake in StarHub which I don't think I will be looking to add onto that position anytime soon.
