My Investment Portfolio (September 2014)
STI ended this month down to close at 3276 points. The market is very much in negative territory especially towards the end of this month, as investors grapple with issues like timing of interest rate hike in US, weak China growth, euro zone sluggishness and lately, unrest in Hong Kong. With so many bad news out there, it is no wonder that most investors had opted to stay on the sidelines.
For this month, I have attended the following AGMs/EGMs/briefings - CM Pacific, Hotel Grand Central, Craft Print, SGX, Lian Beng, GKE and TEE International.
For my top 30 holdings, Straits Trading had been a new entry as I have accumulated the stock this month. Stamford Land returned to the list as I added more to the stock. MTQ dropped out of the list after the stock underperformed the market due to its poor quarterly results. Most of the other stocks have lost some ground in line with the general market.
I have bought the following companies from the market this month - AP Oil, Amara, City Developments, Design Studio, First Sponsor, Hanwell, Hiap Hoe, Hotel Royal, Hwa Hong, Keppel Corp, Keppel T&T, Lum Chang, Nam Lee, OUE, Popular, SembCorp Industries, Sinarmas Land, Sing Holdings, Stamford Land, Straits Trading and Yoma Strategic. I have reduced my stake in Ascott REIT, Cambridge and MapleTree Logistics Trust to partly fund some of these purchases.
I have participated in the following scrip dividend schemes this month - AIMS AMP Capital Industrial REIT, Cambridge, CapitaRetail China Trust, DBS, First REIT, MapleTree Commercial Trust, MapleTree Industrial Trust, MTQ and Sabana REIT. I have also participated in the following rights issues - Broadway, OCBC, Plastoform, and Sitra.
I have the following company being acquired via Scheme of arrangement this month - Goodpack.
October will be a busy month for me as companies with financial year ending June 2014 will be holding their AGMs. I will be attending some of them to get some updates on those companies. I will also selectively add stocks that had been badly beaten down by the recent market correction.

Hi ghchua,
It has been quite awhile that I last commented on your blog. It is not as if I have mastered in equity investment with confidence and have the assurance that the outcome is promising, I did have my fair share of losses subtly in some counters.
However, on the whole, I was able to use the gains to write-off the losses. I can vouch for I did better than those investments I placed with the various banks before I started my DIY investments.
It is not an easy task but worth-trying. I will continue to look out for genuine companies to invest in.
Hi Everlearning,
It is always good to hear from you and glad that you have remained faithful to your DIY investments.
Yes, the road to success is long and hard but I believe with right effort and hard work, you will become a better investor as time goes by.
Hi G H Chua,
Would you be kind enough to share your opinion on whether it is worthwhile to hold on to MTQ shares?
Thank you.
Faith
Hi faith,
I am still holding onto my MTQ shares. I guess MTQ need to digest from its expansion plans for the past few years as their latest result had not been good and the market punished the stock accordingly. Hopefully, this is just a small setback and if you have a long term view on the company, you should hold onto the shares.
Hope that the above helps.
Dear GH Chua,
Do you know what happened to the de-listed company, KXD Digital Entertainment Ltd? In ACRA's system, it has been dissolved, but there's no notification to shareholder whether there's any money to be returned to shareholders? Please advise. Thank you very much.
Hi Chanel,
I have encountered similar situations for stocks like Oriental Century, China Print and Dye etc. Unfortunately, if there is no notification, I treat it as zero return which means no money is available for shareholders after dissolving the company.
In most cases, the money is not even enough to pay the creditors, let alone shareholders. I suggest you write off your investment in KXD Digital Entertainment Ltd.
